Hands that rocks the cradle, rules the world

In 19th century Bengal , a man stood up against the horrendous condition of widows. Not only did he understand their plight but also fought for their rights. The result waaas the passing of the Widow Remarriage Act, 1956. The man was none other than Ishwar Chandra Vidyasager. Once the stalwart was asked what made him feel the pain of women so deeply . The answer was, the teachings of his mother . From a very tender age, the compassionate attitude of his mother towards fellow women was ingrained in him . This attitude later developed as a virtue which made him rule the world. But acyually, it was his mother's hand which indirectly ruled the world.

Let us look into the other side of the spectrum . Known as the leader of the notorious cult, Charles Mason murdered Sharon Tate and many others in 1969 . Charles Mason had a tumultuous relationship with his own mother. Mason's mother, Kathleen Madoxx, a 16 - year old teenager , had repeatedly tried to get rid of her child . On one instance, she had even sold the child for a pitcher of beer.

The above two contrasting acecdotes prove how powerful the force of motherhood is .It also proves that how a hand that cradled the child determines how in future the world is ruled . The first point of socialisation of a child starts with his/her mother . Initally , it is the vision of the mother through which a child sees the world . So , her way of viewing things become very important . Subsequently this way of seeing things shapes a child's vision who may in future rule the world . Be it any personality of the world , motherhood has been the foundation of a person's character. Mother affects the characater, attitude, and personality of achild . The influence of a mother during the formative years of the child has an emotional and behavioural impact on the child .
A mother is the guide , mentor and teacher of a child . Whether a child develops into a hardworking person or a lazy one , very much depends on how deeply the mother has ingrained the importance of work inside the child. Mahatma Gandhi describes in his autobiography that every principle that he nurtured inhis life was ingrained in him meticulously by his mother Putli Bai. Gandhiji said , " The outstanding impression of my mother left in my memory is that of saintliness and religiousity ." Thus, the influence of a mother 's teaching during childhood remains till a person grows up into adulthood.

All great rulers were once helpless children . It was the hand that rocked the cradle gave them confidence to become the rulers of future . Jijabai , the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji , is a perfect example of how women carries the potential of shaping future generations . She taught Shiaji the importance of strategies and value besides telling him stories from great epics and folklore . She taught him the art of politics and prepared him to be a just and honest ruler . She even supervised his weapon training sessions . So, a mother can raise a great leader to rule the world from the very day she starts to cradle him.

Further, Abraham lincoln , one of the greatest Presidents of United States of America , had once said, " All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother ." Her mother had died when he was 9 years old . Though he knew her for a short time , it is said that he remembered her for warm affection . In that short time, she fused a solid foundation of balance between diplomacy and humanity in the toddler. This was reflected later in the way the president handled both sides of the civil war - with fairness and in a way that ultimately bridged the gap between the two sides.

The above incidents reveals how m;others were mainly responsible for chartering the lives of future leaders towards the ambition of their preference . In creative field as well , motherhood has impacted life of great personalities . The well-known English novelist Sir Walter Cott was influenced by his mother , who was  immensly interested in poetry and literarture . Some of the traits that he inherited from his mother were ambition, mental alertness, and power of analysis.

Now let us explore how sometimes the hand that rocked the cradle negatively affected the world that was ruled . Ted Bundy was an American serial killer who kidnapped , raped and murdered numerous young women . He expressed a lifelong resentment toward his mother for never talking to him about his real father and for leaving him to discover his true parentage for himself.

It needs no further emphasis that the quote under discussion celebrates motherhood and her role in transforming the child into an achiever. However, the role of father can not be overlooked . The hand that rocks the cradle should be gender appropriate values and girls learn to make heterosexual arrangement . Famous personality like Paul McCartney has attributed his success to the philosophy of his father.

Emphasizing the role of various platforms likes street theatres, books can be an effective way to nurture the gender neutrality to the hand that rocks the cradle . Concept of paternity needs to be encouraged to challenge the gender stereotyping of child care roles. SInce the future lies in the hands of today, the future of the kids today is in the hands of hteir parents.

The question that now pops up is how to nurture this hand that will virtually rule the future world . The answer lies in increasing emotional intelligence. We need to make our women emotionally intelligent, independent , confident , rational , progressive and empowered. Various strucutres of patriarchy which are responsible for the secondary status of women need to be reformed. Secure attachment between the mother and child creates a warm relation between the two. Mothering is charactersied by trust and mutuality.

Thus, we can say that the hands that rocks the cradle , whether it is of a fahter or mother helps the child to develop empathy , confidence and high level of self-efficacy . Even an illiterate parent , but with a rich vision and a high level of emotional intelligence ,can influence their children / cradle in a number of ways . So that in future the hand that is virtually responsible for ruling the world would be praised and continue to cradle a sustainable future .
